History

Founded in 1981 "by pet lovers, for pet lovers," the story of Sunseed is the result of 35 years of innovation, quality, and a deep love for animal companions.  

With a dedication to improving the health and well-being of small animal and pet bird products, our company has been a leader in embracing nutritional science, zoology, and new technologies in our formulation and production processes to create better products for pets. Sunseed was the first brand in the pet food industry to use nitrogen gas flushing as a natural preservative and to reduce the risk of insect infestation in pet food and treats, and an early pioneer in introducing retailers to cleaner methods of storing pet food with self-serve bulk food containers.

With the expertise of our own team of research scientists and veterinarians, we introduced innovative products that helped set new standards for quality, like our Vita Prima diets, which contain Omega Fatty Acids for healthier coats and feathers and antioxidants to boost the immune system; and Sunaturals, a natural line of foods free of artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. It's thanks to these high-quality, advanced formulations -- as well as the hard work and passion of each and every member of the Sunseed team throughout our history -- that the Sunseed brand quickly became a highly trusted name among pet owners, and remains so today.

Sunseed today continues to operate out of a facility in Weston, OH (near Bowling Green), located right in the heart of farmland. Much of the raw materials used to make our products come straight from local fields in order to make the highest quality and freshest food and treats possible for your companion.
